Tour de Dirt Bike Race: Purcell Lions Club

This Sunday we held our second annual Tour de Dirt Mountain Bike Race at Lake Thunderbird in Norman, Oklahoma.

This is the first event of the year for Mountain Bike Racers in Oklahoma. It is fully sanctioned by USA Cycling. According to the people participating this is the largest Mountain Bike event in Oklahoma.Tour de Dirt

Cooking Hot Dogs

Lions Club Member Greg Wayland brought out his portable grill and cooked Hot Dogs, Bratwursts and Hot Links for the event. This event is the Purcell Lions Club's main fundraiser. We were able to raise about $1800 last year and we are hoping to raise about $2000 this year.

405 Beer. A local micro-brewery called 405 Brewing Co came out and provided free samples of their beer. Seemed a little odd at first, but when you consider the riders are going a minimum of 9 miles and up to 27 miles a glass of beer after your race is probably burned away as soon as you drink it.

Some of these guys just plain scare me with their antics on the track.  But, they are enjoying themselves and not in my way on the lake. lol

OK Than, now I have to go buy a mountain bike. Great community post.

Is it OK if I get a mountain bike with a 350cc engine so I don't have to pedal?

Tour de Dirt Mountain Bike Race looks like a great event.  I was active in Lions International many years ago and really appreciate the fine work of the organization.

Than, Tour de Dirt sounds like a great event.  Here's hoping your club meets its goals in fund raising for a good cause!!!

Hi Than,

This event sounded like it was a lot of fun. You do not see too many mountain biking races. We have a big nationwide race in Redlands but it is on the streets. I hope you had a lot of fun and raised a lot of money as well. Happy Easter to you and your family.
